299,000 passengers arrive to Turkey on cruises between January – May Turkey’s transport minister explained recently that between January and May, the country welcomed a total of just over 299,000 passengers on cruises, which was a surge of 114% compared to a year ago. New third tunnel under Bosphorus set to open in 2028 Adil Karaismailoglu, the Transport and Infrastructure Minister, explained recently that the third tunnel, officially nicknamed the “Great Istanbul Tunnel”, will be in service from 2028, connecting the European and Asian sides of Istanbul. Antalya sees record 2.1 million tourists arrive Data has shown that Antalya is going through what is currently being called the best start to the year ever, with the southern resort city welcoming a record number of tourists from abroad arriving the country by plane. Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport City Park opens to visitors Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport City Park opened its doors recently for visitors to walk around and enjoy the newly planted 145,300 trees along the 13,000 metres, or 42,650 feet, of pavement. Inauguration of new metro line in Istanbul The Basaksehir-Kayasehir metro line was inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan; this brings the total rail network of Istanbul to 325.5 kilometres, equating to over 200 miles. The president, Erdogan, spoke at the opening of the metro station named “Kayasehir”, which was completed by the Transportation and Infrastructure Ministry.
