Turkey now EU’s 6th largest trade partner in 2020 It was reported on Monday by the European Union’s statistical authority that the union’s trade balance for foreign trade had seen a 20.2 billion Euro (22.2billion USD) surplus in the first two months of 2020.04 May 2020

Families provided with cash aid as Turkey supports workers It was announced by Turkey that financial aid would be give to employees who were forced to take unpaid leave during the pandemic caused by COVID-19. The Treasury and Finance Minister, Berat Albayrak, said: “Our citizens who are on unpaid leave, do not worry. We’ll provide salary support for them, too.”15 April 2020
600 Turkish citizens returned home from abroad As part of new measures brought about against fighting the novel coronavirus, Turkey is continuing to bring its citizens back to the country from multiple destinations around the world, recently repatriating nearly 600 people home, specifically from Nagorno-Karabakh and Ukraine.12 April 2020
Almost 3,000 patients recovered from COVID-19 in Turkey Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced that the daily count of people suffering from the effects of coronavirus had exceeded 50,000 as the daily death toll increased, bringing the total of people that have lost their lives to 1,101. Turkey to provide 5 free face masks per week Following the recent decision by the Turkish government to further combat and fight against the spread of coronavirus, it is now a requirement by law to wear a face mask when in a public place. Due to this new legislation, the Turkish Postal System has announced plans for the distribution of medical masks to Turkish citizens free of charge.12 April 2020
Tourism in Turkey set to resume by the end of May Mehmet Nuri Esroy, the Turkish Minister for Culture and Tourism recently announced that the tourism season in Turkey is set to be on hold until the end of May, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that: “Hopefully, we will see that tourism activities will start again during the Ramadan Feast.”08 April 2020

However, for students to continue their education uninterrupted, Turkey is set to launch digital education that will be available to millions. Istanbul and Antalya amongst the most popular cities worldwide According to new data released by Business Insider, in terms of visitor numbers, in 2019 Istanbul ranked 8th in the world with 13.4 million total tourist visitors, whilst the Turkish resort city of Antalya came in 10th with recorded visitor numbers reaching 12.4 million.05 April 2020
Turkish Airlines join Lufthansa to help fly 30,000 people home The Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa joint venture SunExpress has carried more than 30,000 people home in efforts to assist with repatriation due to flights being banned to minimalise the spread of coronavirus throughout the world.
